Announcement: "Cast Your Nets"
Riley is launching a new Substack that Crux fans should know about
Dear Crux Subscribers,
You may have noticed that the releases of this podcast have been quite slow and infrequent over the last year or so. That’s mostly due to the difficulties of matching up mine & Landen’s busy schedules, and for that you have our apologies. But a secondary cause is that we’re both pursuing multiple passion projects at the same time, which can sometimes relegate this podcast to the backburner.
One of these passion projects many of you have been familiarized with are the cultural, religious, political, and historical commentaries that I’ve written about here at the Crux. Those articles— though I think they're quite good & worth reading— have strayed a little outside the initially intended goals of COTM. There’s also the fact that this turns the Crux into a one-pony show, which I don’t want to do.
The other passion project, which had been only a behind-the-scenes project until last week, is a new podcast of mine that will be different in focus than the Crux: the idea is for me to invite my friends from all over the internet (like Montana Classical College & Kruptos, who have been on the Crux before) to come and discuss their favorite Bible passages with me— think of it as some kind of digital Bible study. I’ve left the preview article right here for you to explore:
Now, I don’t want people to worry, so let me be clear: the Crux of the Matter is not closing down or shuttering anytime soon. The Crux will still be up and running— we may record another podcast in the next month or so, so keep an eye out for that—but it is transitioning to being the one & only home of the Crux of the Matter podcast, and whatever joint projects that both Landen & I want to pursue (we don’t believe in a “first among equals” leadership format, like Lenin or the Bishop of Rome). But this change in structure will allow the Crux to be a high-quality, albeit infrequent, podcast. We won’t feel pressured to release a podcast for the mere sake of releasing a piece of content, thanks to this new arrangement.
“Cast Your Nets” is the name of this new Substack, which has a logo & website already. The aforementioned Bible-focused podcast will begin recording over the next few weeks, and hopefully I’ll be able to throw up some Cast Your Nets episodes by next month. In addition, my next article will also be releasing soon— it’s a review of Braxton McCoy’s excellent book, “The Glass Factory,” which I’m excited to finish up. I will also publish the backlog of my existing articles from COTM as an archive over at Cast Your Nets.
I’m very excited for this new project, if you couldn't tell. For those of you who have enjoyed my individual contributions in the past, I would greatly appreciate if you also subscribed to Cast Your Nets, in addition to the Crux of the Matter. Whether you’re one of those people who only listens to the podcast, or you’re only here for the articles; whether you came here from other platforms or have been here since day one; I hope you’ll head on over to Cast Your Nets— which is linked at the bottom of this letter. Thanks for your continued interest & support,
BigTuna
P.S.- You can also join the Cast Your Nets community by joining the CYN Subscriber Chat, where people can give their input on the podcast and interact with me & my guests. Check it out:
